How do I make an animated GIF smaller?

Choose a GIF, select a size and quality, then press Compress GIF. Balanced quality is a good starting point. Reducing the dimensions usually makes the biggest difference.

Will my GIF stay animated?

Yes. The compressor processes the whole animation and preserves its timing and looping. It also supports GIF transparency.

Are my files uploaded anywhere?

No. Compression runs locally in your browser. Your GIF is not uploaded to our servers, and we do not store your files.

Does compression reduce image quality?

It can. Our presets use lossy compression, which can introduce small changes to colors or details. High quality makes gentler changes. Compare the previews before downloading.

Why is my GIF not getting smaller?

Some GIFs are already well optimized. Try a smaller width or the Smaller file quality setting. If a result is larger, we tell you and keep your original available.

Can I compress a GIF under 1 MB?

You can try reducing its dimensions and quality until the result is below 1 MB. Check the result size after each attempt. This tool does not guarantee a specific target size.

What is the file limit?

Choose one GIF up to 20 MB. Very large dimensions or long animations may exceed the browser’s processing limits, even when the file itself is smaller.
